Cuba boasts a network of protected marine areas in remote waters. In terms of liveaboard diving, the most visited area is the Jardines de la Reina, which is located approximately 50 miles (80km) from south, central Cuba and consists of 230 islets. It’s also considered the best shark diving area in the Caribbean with a healthy population of Caribbean Reef and silky sharks. Another up-and-coming liveaboard destination is the Canarreos Archipelago, which boasts 350 islands surrounded by coral reefs. In both of these areas, there are no hotels, and you’ll need to visit by liveaboard. A typical dive safari lasts 7 days and 6 nights, and the best time to dive in Cuba is from November to April.
